If you have lived in 78636 for more than a couple of seasons, you have watched the wine traffic on US-290 do the same thing every June. Cars come off I-35, pass the courthouse square, and keep going toward Fredericksburg. What is different this summer is that a lot of them are stopping.

The short version of the argument in this post: the wine-country money that used to skip Johnson City on the way west is now planting itself downtown and along US-281. That changes what a Saturday here looks like for the rest of us, and it changes which weeknights are worth going out.
